But aside from reconnecting with old friends or staying connected with family even while you are living far away, the internet has also allowed a lot of strangers to meet and fall in love! Video calls allow them to connect so easily, at no added cost compared with the expensive long-distance telephone calls people needed in the past.

As the relationship went deeper, so was their wish to see each other in person.

Considering how difficult it can be for a Filipino to obtain travel documents to go abroad, the two decided that instead of Eugene visiting Viktorija as courtship traditions might dictate, it would be the other way around.

It would certainly be much easier for Viktorija to visit the Philippines and meet Eugene. Europeans need to visa to visit the country for 30 days.

Viktorija worked hard in Lithuania to save money for her tickets, but Eugene promised to help pay for her fare and make sure she does not spend anything in the Philippines.

True enough, the two finally met – and it was so surreal for Eugene that he didn’t even know what to do when he finally saw her at the airport.

Eugene and his family made sure to make Viktorija feel welcome throughout her stay. They took her to nearby tourist spots, brought her to popular Pinoy restaurants and fastfood outlets, and introduced her to the wonderful Filipino culture.

As Viktorija’s visit came to an end, she went back to Lithuania with an extra luggage filled with pasalubong!

Starstruck by the experience, Eugene would share their story on social media and declared himself the luckiest guy in the world. While sharing their video on YouTube, he wrote that he felt like this was much better than winning the lottery! Cute.
