In the Philippines, teachers and parents face the problem of not having the right gadgets or internet connection for the upcoming ‘blended’ learning that will be implemented by the Department of Education (DepEd). But teachers are also struggling with the enrollment process, especially because many parents don’t even know how to use the internet!

Efren B. Cabotage, a Mathematics Teacher at Narvacan National Central High School in Cadacad, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, recently went viral for his dedication to his students.

Because the area has poor internet connection, this dedicated teacher decided to climb the mountain to find better signal to enroll students and to also attend webinars hosted by DepEd.

Just like many public school teachers, Teacher Efren used his own money to buy the gadgets he needed for teaching his students. He also bought his own pocket wifi and pays for the load with his own money.

But he does not mind the financial sacrifice and the physical efforts he makes as he climbs the mountain the find better signal. For this teacher, it is alright that he makes these sacrifices so that the students can have a better future! What’s climbing a mountain for better signal if that ensures a better future for the students, huh?

Thanks to his dedication, he was able to enroll dozens of students. It is truly encouraging that he would go out of his way to help the students. The teacher explained that he is doing this because just like these students, he had also struggled with finances while growing up.

The best he could do is help them out so they can, hopefully, have a better future just like him.

They just have to study hard and consider their parents’ sacrifices. They have to do their best to graduate. I’ve been there, on that kind of situation, so I’ll be there, to make that situation lighter. Kung kinaya ko, kakayanin rin nila,” Teacher Efren said.

Kudos, Teacher Efren!
