Kid Works Extra Hard as Family’s Breadwinner after Both Parents Got Sick

In life, everyone expects the parents to work hard and provide the needs of their children. They make sure that their children have food to eat, a roof over their heads, and opportunities to study so they can have a better life in the future.

But the reality is harsh to many families, particularly when the parents get sick. The roles become reversed, with the children being the ones to care for their parents and providing their needs.

Sadly, such things could happen even to families with young kids, leading these children to feel mature beyond their age so they can provide for their family’s needs and save their parents.

Manny Samaa is still a kid, yet he has no choice but to become the family’s breadwinner due to his parents becoming sick. His dad is already bedridden while his mother can’t also work due to her tuberculosis.

Thus, even when he was still too young, Manny stood as the family’s sole breadwinner. That is not an easy feat for the young boy who had to sell brooms, mops, sponges, water dipper, dustpans, and other household items while walking around neighborhoods in North Caloocan. But that’s just during the day.

As the night draws near, Manny couldn’t relax yet because he has to sell balut. He follows a smaller route at night as he sells balut. Often, he could only go home when it was already late at night because he wants to sell out the items so he could bring better pay to his parents.

But this young boy is not complaining about his situation. Though his parents are both sick, he does not resent them for what he has become. Instead, he is happy that as breadwinner, he is able to feed his parents and make them happy.
