An incoming Grade 10 student who wants to be an engineer has gone viral after he sold pots to buy a gadget for online school. This determined young student also puts garden soil in a sack he would sell for Php100.

Jan Dale Perez grew up with his elderly grandparents in Talamban, Cebu City after he was left by his parents back when he was still a small kid. But this helpful young boy did not let life’s circumstances get him down. Instead, he did his best to help his grandparents earn money for their food, the old folks’ vitamins, and a gadget he could use for online school.

A consistent honor student, Perez does not want to take a gap year amid the COVID-19 crisis. But with the Department of Education (DepEd) making use of blended learning this school year, he would somehow need a gadget to attend his classes or pass some requirements for the subjects.

The young student knows that his grandparents won’t be able to afford buying him a gadget. So, he decided to make stylish pots from cement and cloth to earn some extra cash. This helped him earn some extra money to buy his grandparents’ vitamins. The rest he kept for the gadget he is planning to buy.

But that is not enough, so, the young student gathered empty cement sacks that he filled with garden soil. With the hype on planting and gardening these days, the garden soil is the perfect item to sell.

Perez wants to be an engineer someday. Though at Grade 10 he is still far from reaching that dream, many netizens believe he would surely go a long way because he knows how to work hard to change his situation.
